About the course

This comprehensive 12-day certificate course aims to provide participants with a solid foundation in three widely recognized therapeutic approaches: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Gestalt therapy and Psychodynamic therapy. Participants will gain an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings, core principles, and practical techniques of each approach, allowing them to develop and enhance their skills in working with clients across a broad range of psychological issues.

Course Syllabus

Gestalt Therapy
1. Introduction to Gestalt Therapy
2. Holism and Awareness
3. The Here and Now
4. Experiential Learning: The importance of "experiments" in therapy.
5. Contact and Withdrawal: Concepts of contact (engaging with oneself and others) and withdrawal (avoidance) in Gestalt Therapy.
6. The Cycle of Experience: Introduce the stages of the Gestalt cycle: sensation, awareness, energy mobilization, action, and contact.
7. Unfinished Business
8. Creative Adjustments: The ways individuals develop coping mechanisms (creative adjustments) to deal with unfinished business.
9. Gestalt Techniques: Common techniques used in Gestalt Therapy, such as the empty chair technique and the two-chair technique.

Psychodynamic Therapy
1. Introduction to Psychodynamic Therapy: Overview of psychodynamic therapy, its historical development, and its roots in psychoanalytic theory.
2. Key Concepts: Unconscious mind, defense mechanisms, and the role of early experiences in shaping personality.
3. The Role of the Therapist
4. Therapeutic Relationship: Significance of the therapeutic alliance and the transference-countertransference dynamics in psychodynamic therapy.
5. Freud's Structural Model: Freud's model of the psyche, consisting of the id, ego, and superego.
6. Dream Analysis: Use of dream analysis as a method to explore unconscious thoughts, wishes, and conflicts.
7. Free Association
8. Interpretation: Explore how the therapist interprets unconscious processes, defense mechanisms, and underlying meanings to foster insight.
9. Working with Transference: Discuss how transference, the client's feelings towards the therapist based on past relationships, can be used to gain insight into unresolved issues.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

3. Introduction to the ABC Model (Activating events, Beliefs, Consequences)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

4. Teaching clients mindfulness skills and exercises

Solution Focused Brief therapy
